The carelessness of a child’s true success and understanding has increased. The problem is carried on by parents, teachers, and the school system. Mary Sherry, a teacher and mother knows of the issue more than most. Sherry wrote her article, “In Praise of The F Word,” in order to enhance our knowledge of the problem that we may not be aware of. Sherry argues that being handed a high school diploma means nothing; it proves no true knowledge. The students being spoon fed their way through high school are poorly educated, do not know the value of effort, and are not prepared to understand what failure truly means. Being passed along through high school will leave the students poorly educated. Mary Sherry was a teacher for basic skills such as, reading and writing.…show more content… Sherry had one of her workshop classes write about a time in their last educational experience that was miserable for them. Many students came forward without boundary. “I wish someone would have had made me stop doing drugs and made me study” (1). Being a teacher and good samaritan, this situation was saddening to Sherry. Blaming stimulants, personal relationships, and other obstacles that may have been distracting to the students was wrong (1). A teacher continuously having to demand a student’s attention is dreadful for the instructor. Most instructors will ignore the fact that their students are not listening, and move on with the lesson. Threatening with extra homework or a quiz is not as effective, as failing them. Mary Sherry suggests, how to show who the
