Gangland and “Gangsta Girls” both documentaries are in some ways night and day from each other but at the same time have woman that lived the same story of grief. The gangland documentary showed how woman have to adapt and survive in order to be belong to a gang and also face society. The ‘Gangsta Girls” documentary showed more of a delquency of teenagers playing with a fire they don’t know anything about even if it means getting in trouble. In a way it was a way for these girls to cope with or adapt to the world they live in regardless of the concequces. One major difference between the two were the two communities these girls both lived in. In the Gangland documentary it showed a much harsher world than the girls from the “Gangsta Girls” had. Mexicans have their culture reflected through their communities and there usually very family-oriented whether they have gangs or not. While the African-American culture stem from their history in America and as history has shown it was a not a happy one and its reflected into their communities. That’s why in both documentaries gang presence was stronger in one than the other. African-American gangs started as way to protect their communities from oppression from racism but lost their way and started fighting each other and destroyed their communities in the process. Whereas Latinos started gangs as way to protect themselves for being different in a different land but still having roots to where they came from. That’s why the communities seem much more tamed in Latino areas rather than African American areas. That is also perhaps the reason why the women in both documentaries had different experiences with gangs where one side was living the nightmare and the other is deciding if it is or
