Some people think that giving up your baby is hard, so you cannot think twice. Some girls have no big deal about giving up their babies, but others cannot even imagine the pain of it. The story “Don’t Think Twice” by Ruth Pennebaker is a fiction story that takes place in a group home for unwed mothers, which is in Dallas, Texas. Anne is a seventeen year old who is pregnant and trying to adjust to the lifestyle of a pregnant woman. She goes through a lot of changes while living with her friends Donna, Lanelle, Nancy, Rachel, Cheryl, Gracie, and Harriet, who are all pregnant teens as well. As the months pass by Anne soon learns that what is growing inside her is not just a child, but also a new awareness of herself. Anne is a very sensitive, sarcastic, and obsessive kind of girl, as it states on page fourteen. In the beginning of the story Anne keeps to herself and never talks to anyone, it states on page eleven that all she ever thought about was how she hurt and destroyed the bond with her father by getting pregnant. For example, during Thanksgiving Anne’s family came to visit for a few days, but there visit ended early when Anne’s father had to go back home for a work emergency, they gave Anne her gift for birthday and fled, Anne ended up spending her birthday alone at the home. This was an interesting event because nobody likes to spend their birthday alone, but sometimes being alone on your birthday can be good too if you are not a people person. Another interesting moment in Don’t Think Twice was when Anne started to get mad on her birthday and started throwing things around her room and imagining that she was hurting everybody in her life. This moment is interesting because not a lot of people go into their rooms throwing things at the wall, pretending to hurt people in their lives.
