On the cold winter morning of December 13th, the Swedish towns people are up and celebrating St. Lucia’s day. This day marks the coming of a new year and celebrations with the family, even the food holds a great significance to the holiday. On the 13th of December the Swedish people celebrate Luciadagen or St. Lucia’s Day. The eldest daughter from every family poses as Lucia and is draped in a white long dress, a red sash which tied around the waist, and a crown of seven candles. The young girls, who follow Lucia in their white gowns are shown as Lucia’s maidens as they follow her everywhere, and her brothers wear white robes with pointed hats which have been adorned with stars on the front and are portrayed as ‘Tomtenissar’
