Growing up in Powder Springs, Georgia during the 1980’s offered little weekend entertainment for teenagers. Our parents wouldn’t allow my sister and me to just hangout anywhere. We found the Sparkles Skating Rink in Paulding County to be a popular place for teenagers on the weekends. It was a safe indoor facility that provided my parents with a certain level of comfort to be able to drop us off so we could enjoy skating and hanging out with our friends. My sister and I spent countless Friday and Saturday nights at the skating rink. Now that I have a daughter, who is thirteen, I am always looking for the same type of environment for her and her friends.
