Jay Gatsby from “The Great Gatsby” based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 novel is a character of interest and would make a good comparison to John Proctor in “The Crucible” based on Arthur Miller’s 1953 play. Gatsby is a rich racketeer who uses illegal means to amass wealth which is emphasized by his huge appetite for making money. He spends most of his time trying to impress people he barely know and especially the rich, who he lavishes with big parties. However, he is genuinely in love with Daisy Buchanan, which later makes him a sympathetic character when he takes the blame for her hit-and-run accident. Proctor is the play’s tragic hero whose lust for Abigail Williams leads to an affair thereby culminating into Abigail’s jealousy of Elizabeth,
