The tragic downfalls of both Creon and Antigone are a very large portion of the story Antigone’s tragic downfall is killing herself because she can not live a life where evil is surrounding her, and she is too stubborn to Antigone says “I knew I must die,even without your decree:/ I am only mortal. And if i must die/ Now before it is my time to die,/ Surely this is no hardship: can anyone/ Living, as i live, with evil all about me” (II,64-68). This quote is important because it shows the audience and Creon how strong and independent she is. It also show her views on death, everyone is going to die eventually, and she would rather be dead 5han live an impure life. She thinks it will make her life impure if she just lets it go without doing anything about it, It is part of her religion to have a proper ceremony when someone dies and Creon is denying her that right which leads her disobey the law.…show more content…
If she had left her brother and Obeyed Creon's law she would have been haunted for the rest of her life. Haemon, Antigone’s fiance and Creon's son says “ They say no women has ever , so unreasonably,/Died so shameful a death for a generous act: /‘She covered her brothers body. Is this indecent?/ She kept him from dogs and vultures. Is this a crime?/ Death? she should have all the honor we can give her!’ ”(III, 63-68). This is another example Supporting that Antigone should not be punished for her actions. She buried her brother out of love and respect for him and her family. Haemon respects her decision and stands up to Creon when he says this, Proving that creon is wrong, and accusing him of acting
