Canada is known as one of the most humanitarian countries in the world. We are recognized for our kindness, our respect, and our hockey teams too. I will continue to believe that Canada has done more good to this world than bad. The purpose of this essay is to provide a reasonable answer to the question “Should Canada be considered a humanitarian nation given their actions over the course of the 20th century?” I believe that despite their actions over the course of the 20th century, Canada should most definitely be considered a humanitarian nation. Hence, the fact that we now have our Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom, and another reason is because we donate generously to the other countries in the world that need our assistance. Lastly, we have free health care.
Before the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms were stated, devastating events occurred such as the Japanese Internment. The Japanese, because of their inability to assimilate, faced xenophobia, racism and discrimination. They were denied the right to vote, and were faced with harsh circumstances such as being sent to a “Ghost Town”…show more content… In 1949 the Japanese-Canadians regained all of their rights and all restrictions were lifted. Although it is a devastating event to look back at, it is always best to learn from our mistakes in an attempt for a better and brighter future. Now, we have the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. It is one part of the Canadian Constitution. The Constitution is a set of laws containing the basic rules about how our country operates. For example, all Canadian’s have the following rights: equality rights, democratic rights, legal rights, mobility rights, language rights, minority language education rights, and more. These rights are created to enable any inequality we have faced in the past, and to make sure every person in Canada feels safe and comfortable with their
