The story ‘’Sunday in the Park’’ was written by Bel Kaufmann and published in 1985. It is a story about a husband, his wife and their child, who are going to a public sandbox. At the public sandbox there is another child, who throws sand at their child. Analysis of Morton; Morton has anger issues. We see this, when he shouts: ‘’‘’Can’t you keep him quiet, for Pete’s sake?’’ Morton asked irritably’’ and then says: ‘’’’If you can’t discipline this child, I will,’’ Morton snapped making a move toward the boy.’’ Here it is clearly shown, that Morton ‘’snaps’’ and gets very angry, all of the sudden. It also start to feel, as if he is threatening to hit the child. He might do this, because he is nervous, and has a low self-esteem. Also he is probably very outraged by the whole situation, as it is very unusual for him, that another adult behaves like this. Furthermore, Morton might also be scared of the man that they meet at the public sandbox. We see this when Morton is humiliated by the other man; ‘’’Oh, yeah?’’ said the man. He stood with his legs spread apart, rocking a little at Morton with utter scorn. ‘’You and who else?’’ For a moment the two men looked at each other nakedly. Then Morton turned his back on the man and said quietly, ‘’Come on, let’s get out of here.’’ He walked awkwardly,…show more content…
This is shown when Morton confronts his wife, about their child; ‘’ If you can’t discipline this child, I will,’’ Morton snapped making a move toward the boy. But her voice stopped him. She was shocked to hear it, thin and cold and penetrating with contempt. ‘’Indeed?’’ she heard herself say. ‘’you and who else?’’’’ Here it seems obvious, that she doesn’t respect Morton. The fact that Morton’s own wife does not respect him, must be making Morton angrier and it is probably contributing to his insecurity. Furthermore, it might make Morton feel like his own wife is bullying him, just like the man at the sandbox did
