One hand on the steering wheel, the other intertwines with my tangled hair, attempting to retain the wind-blown strands from flying in my face, blocking my vision from the road. Sunlight radiates through the rolled down windows and flies off the windshield of my car. At fifty miles an hour, trees and buildings whip past me and convert into nothing but blurry blobs. With my focus on the road ahead and on the harmonic beat of the song playing on the radio that blasts throughout my car, I do not notice when I progressively accelerate over the speed limit. As I lower my speed, I target my mind on the catchy beat that gradually picks up. It is the plainest of pleasures. A simple drive with a catchy song playing is all I need to absolve my mind and destress. The music drowns out all the unnecessary thoughts that consume in mind. The pure idea that a casual drive is all I need to leave behind all my worries when driving liberates me. Indulging in the ranging blue colors of a beautiful sky set off by cottonball clouds allows myself to open myself up to the freedom that comes with driving. I am simply free to escape from my everyday meddling speculations, such as when I am going to study for my math test, or the arguments I had with my twin brother. Driving offers an effective way for dealing with stress and finding peace and equilibrium in my life. Weather my destination steers me past the alternating landscapes of crowded forests or open hills, nothing is more exciting than riding down the beauty of natures scenic roads. Appearances mislead many, however, with a positive outlook on what the world has to offer, and a keen eye, I am able to approach many dilemmas with an open mind, ready to experiment with new ideas and solutions. Perspective is a key element when facing all that life has to offer. I depend on the therapeutic ride driving offers to control my stress and it is what I owe my sanity too.
