Salsa is a dance form of music that is originated from Cuba, Puerto Rico and Columbia. But the salsa term initially promoted and marketed in the New York City during 1970s. In fact, New York salsa draws from the Cuban styles of son music, mambo music and cha cha cha. Salsa musicians adapted the son style to their own need and tastes. The main instruments they use in salsa music are guitar, violin, bass, piano, accordion, trumpet, saxophone, cowbell, bongo and conga drums, etc. During the time of salsa in 1970s, there was famous lady singer name Celia Cruz. She was known as a famous Cuban American salsa singer and performer. Celia Cruz was born in Havana, Cuba. The main purpose of existence of the renowned salsa music has always been for dancing. Both the salsa music and dance have maintained their vitality by absorbing other influence over the decades. The dance of salsa has got some similarities with actions like lindy hop, hustle and swing. This fact itself sounds quite amazing for many of the lovers of salsa. There is a lot of variation with the dancing of salsa depending on the origin of the person dancing it along with the origin of the place from where the dance has been learnt from. At a basic level, salsa dancers from different origin can actually dance together. Though there are many interesting facts about both the dance and music of salsa, about learning it and its origin and culture etc. For people who hail from Latin American culture and origin, salsa is something which is acquired in a passive learning process. But for other, salsa learning in the early stages is a structured process. Celia Cruz worked as a singer for more than forty years, and during that time, she became well known for her vigorous work with great personality, and her emotional way of singing. She was one of the famous artists with over six decades of success making her an inspiration to the Latin community as well as the rest of the world. Celia Cruz spoke English very well but she refused to sing and record in English. During many of her performances, she was well known for being able to improvise lyrics. Celia Cruz began singing in talent shows and doing recordings for radio stations, but neither was sold for money. In the beginning of Celia Cruz performers the public did not like her, because she was black. But eventually later on because of her hard work and talent the public accepted her and she became famous throughout the Cuba and later on in Latin America. Also Celia Cruz had made numerous recordings with La Sonora Mantancera, she experienced little success in the United States in the 1960s. She was a leading singer of a Cuban band, La Sonara Matancera.
