In the absence of rules humanity's basic barbaric nature appears. Rules prohibit negative behavior and ensure safety. Our nation’s judicial system is fair and enables a smooth functioning society. In the novel The Lord of The Flies, by William Golding a group of boys are stranded on an island without adults. WIthout authoritative figures to enforce rules the boys eventually turn deadly. Although excessive rules may instigate revolt, a balanced and just judicial system ensures order, which is necessary in a society.
In Lord of the Flies, the absence of rules created chaos and disorder throughout the entire story. The boys in Lord of the Flies experience this when they are immersed into the island without anyone to control them and free reign. "This is our island. It's a good island.
