American mythologies are legends that came from the United States and have different characteristics. There myths that are set from time to time. They have been filled with strange characters and mythical events so that it can bring a positive message towards people. In the story called “Rip Van Winkle” it shows how Iviring defines that meaning of American mythology through the setting, events, and characters. While Rip Van winkle was sleeping he didn’t noticed what was going around him until he woke up. When he woke up he noticed that everything around him had changed. What this quote from the book means is that it shows how it starting to be magical because when Rip Van Winkle was going up to the mountains he found some strange men that he met while he was up there. After that they had offer some liquor and he had took the liquor and drank it which had made him fall asleep for twenty years. Also another thing it shows how Rip Van Winkle goes back to the twenty years back to where he had come from and starts to tell everyone about the long dream he had experienced. “He used to tell his story to every stranger that arrived at Mr. Doolittle’s hotel. (pg78)” What this shows is that Rip Van Winkle was telling everyone about how the long dream he had and how he went twenty years forward from his life and came back to the past where he was actually
