Optimum parameters for rice polisher A B S T R A C T
Quality of rice after milling process is depends on various factors, which include paddy harvesting conditions, paddy drying, physical properties of paddy kernels, environmental conditions, and type and quality of milling system components. The objective of this paper is to identify the optimum parameter to achieve uniformly polished yield of rice with less broken. The optimum…show more content… It is the main staple food for about 60% of the world's population. About 90% of the world's rice is produced and consumed in Asia. India is the second largest producer of rice in world [11]. Rice estimates for India in year 2014 is 106.29 million metric tons [12]. Hence there is large need of rice polishing machine with optimised power consumption. Polishing any material is basically a phenomenon of wear. Wear is defined as either mass or volume of material, removed or displaced from a solid surface, which is repeatedly subjected to mechanical stresses by rubbing with another solid surface or surfaces. This involves removal of material from a solid surface by mechanical action, which may be sliding, rolling, impact or combination of these…show more content… This research has selected pozzolan materials were rice husk ash, bagasse ash and metakaolin use in the experimental and replace total as 40%: magnesium oxide cement as 60% by design experiment with Minitab on mixture design function which has 10 formulations for compressive strength and tensile strength. It found formulation suitable was rice husk ash: bagasse ash: metakaolin as 15: 25: 60. When use this formulation to cast rice mill cylinder and test rice milling, it found average good rice percent: 80.12 and average wear rate: 4.43 g/hr.
