The Egyptians were ruled by pharaohs or kings who had absolute control over their land and people. They used hieroglyphs, which are pictures that symbolize words, to communicate among themselves. Egyptians were great builders; one of their most famous architectural works is the pyramids. The pyramids were use as a burial place to put Egyptian pharaohs. In the Egyptian culture it was belief that to have a good afterlife you had to be physically preserved along with your most precious possessions. They also believed that all organs expect for the heart should be removed and put into jars that were said to be protected by one of Horus's four sons.
