Taking Sides: French Revolution During the French Revolution, the Democratic-Republicans wished to side with the French, while the Federalists fancied siding with Britain. Alexander Hamilton, leader of the Federalists, believed that allying with the British would be more beneficial for our country, but the Democratic-Republicans disagreed.
