Political stability stands at the heart of Prince Metternich’s writing Confession of Faith. Monarchies are in his perspective the only form of government, which can grantee a stable political order. Thus, he challenges many enlightenment ideas about humanity. In order to understand Metternich’s document, this paper first outlines, how he uses the term “evil”, before it explains this criticism on enlightenment beliefs. “Evil may be described with one word – presumption” , that how to Metternich describes evil. (33) In Metternich’s view, presumption leads people’s mind to strive for perfecting different aspects of their lives. Hence, humans guide their own destiny, chose their belief and elect their representatives for an assembly or government.
