The theme of the Interlopers is that negativity just causes misfortune. Ulrich and Georg really hate each other, and think that if they continue fighting with each other, then soon the problem the other one causes will go away. In the beginning, it says that Georg and Ulrich have hated each other since they were children and still are fighting and that even their parents hated each other. Continuous fighting will not solve anything since both will hate each other, and continue to try to annoy each other which makes them have more excuses to hate.
