Preston Tucker was a man with a vision to make the best automobile in the world without compromising on the safety of the vehicle itself. As a leader and a person, Preston Tucker was hard working, innovative and never willing to compromise on what he had planned for the future. He had his own unique leadership style that was of great benefit to him and his followers because he had a image of what his automobile was suppose to be and empowered his followers to make his dream come true. By translating these things into action, Preston Tucker was a good transformational leader that offered a shared vision with his followers and included them in his vision by helping to empower them to be great at what they do. This vision of the future is different than that of other visions of the car industry because the other car companies were not interested in innovation or making drastic changes in what was being done but rather they were more interested in profits. Preston Tuckers' vision however had little to do with money but rather changing the car industry forever. He wanted that innovative and safe car. He shows this by when he was giving the presentation to the Congressmen and was showing all the gruesome pictures of car crashes in the Big 5 vehicles and then he shows how his car was so much better than those other ones by describing the changes in his car. He sold his dream of the future by his advertisements always claiming that the Tucker Torpedo was the “Car of the Future” and was always pictured in a nostalgic future way as to add to the difference of the Tucker Torpedo than any other…show more content…
A tool that Tucker uses to empower his people has to do with the prototype vehicle that they built. In the movie, they were giving a 60 day deadline to build the car and there were many problems that were going on with building the car but all through the building, Tucker gave confidence in the workers of the car by telling them that they will get it done and was able to keep the morale up. He also empowered Alex Tremulis, the chief designer at Tucker Automobile. At one point in the movie, Alex made a design change in the car that made it more efficient, he brought up the design to Tucker who then congratulated him on it and told him that he if he ever did that again he would promote him. This is just one instance of how he constantly strove to make his employees and followers better. He also showed them that they can be great by not changing his designs no matter who or what got in the way. While he was away on his tour around the country, Fred Rockelman was changing the design of his car to look more like the Plymouth, when Tucker found out he immediately canceled the rest of his trip and came home to fight the changes that were being made. This only inspired his followers to finish the Torpedo in-spite of all the criticism and
