John Wyndham’s The Chrysalids is based in a post apocalyptic future where a nuclear war has destroyed most of the world. The survivors try too rebuild society as it was before but along the way their views become skewed once people start developing genetic mutations. The novel is mainly set in Waknuk a small farm community where prejudice towards said mutations aren’t uncommon. In The Chrysalids, three characters, Sophie, Aunt Harriet and Anne, are all victims of prejudice due their own unique differences to the norm. Sophie Wender, a six year old girl, becomes a target of Waknuk’s prejudice because to her small sixth toes.
