Traits of Insulin Insulin is a peptide hormone which is made of 2 polypeptide chains that are labeled as chain A and chain B. The two chains are combined by 2 disulfide bonds that are in between two cysteine residues, in which a disulfide bond is the linking bond between two sulfurs. It is initially made as a single molecule called preproinsulin, However, the structure of insulin does differ in animal cells because the effectiveness of insulin in animal cells are somewhat different than those in human cells.
