Background
The word Photosynthesis broken up is: photo, means light and the word Synthesis means, making food. Plants and other living organisms use the sunlight to produce oxygen (O2) and glucose (C6H12O6) from Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O). The plants collect and accumulate the sun’s rays, then the chloroplasts store the rays and then use them. The roots absorb the water and the plant breathes in the CO2. The CO2 and the water moves from the…show more content… The plant disposes of the oxygen, and keeps the glucose for its food. The glucose gets broken down into different molecules, then the molecules get broken down into even smaller molecules of glucose. The plant then feeds of the glucose whenever it needs to. Elodea nuttallii is a native aquatic plant from North America. It is very similar to the plant Elodea Canadensis. Elodea nuttallii has short leaves around 6-13 mm in length and 1.5 mm in width. It is generally paler than Elodea Canadensis and more branched stalks. Its leaves are folded along the midrib and bent like claws. Elodea nuttallii was first identified as Hydrilla verticillata, this species was first discovered in Great Britain 1914. Then, it was correctly identified as Elodea nuttallii. Now, Elodea nuttallii is being sold in pet stores for ornaments in fish tanks and in garden centers. Elodea nuttallii is found in both nutrient rich lakes and slow flowing rivers. There are many variables that can be changed when experimenting with photosynthesis. These variables are, the colour spectrum, the temperature the Elodea nuttallii is put in and the pH the water is that the Elodea nuttallii is put in. The light spectrum is built up of 4 main colours; red, blue, green and yellow. All of these colours put together make the white light we see through our eyes. The reason why we see most plants as green is because of the chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is vital for…show more content… 19- All reactions recorded and everything was cleaned and packed up.
