Peyton Manning When discussing the topic of greatest quarterback of all time, Peyton Manning is one of the first names that are talked about. He certainly has the resume to be on the list as a 5 time MVP winner and Super Bowl champion. But how you play on the field isn’t the only way that you can be classified as the greatest. You also have to be an amiable person. That is another quality Manning possesses. His childhood, college career, NFL career, and records are a few ways Manning has affected the game of football. Manning wasn’t a day one starter at UT. In fact he was the third string quarterback. But after injuries to starter Jerry Colquitt and backup Todd Helton, Manning got the start. After Manning’s first game the Volunteers only lost 1 more game for the rest of the season. The next season Manning and the Vols went 11-1. They were ranked third overall and Manning was a nominee for the Heisman Trophy. For his junior year the Vols were predicted to win the national championship. Starting the season the team was hot behind Manning’s monster of an arm. In their third game of the season Manning had four interceptions in a loss to the University of Florida. After a loss to the University of Memphis the Vols were perfect for the rest of the season. Manning finished his degree in Bachelor of Arts. Many expected him to be the top pick in the 1997 NFL Draft but Manning decided to return to college for his senior year. His senior year went excellent for him. The Vols finished ranked third and Manning was awarded numerous awards like being first team All-American, the Davey O’Brien Award, Johnny Unitas Award, and Best College Player ESPY. He was also runner up for the Heisman Trophy. He was also a diligent student being selected to the Phi Beta Kappa Society. Manning entered the draft as the predicted number one
