Players Should be Held Accountable Do you think that sports teams have a responsibility to hold their players for their personal conduct? If you think about it, what could be prevented if they did. How much less would we see in the news about football players beating their wives? Sports teams should hold their players to a standard for their personal conduct for a couple reason. First of all, the player's problem could be prevented, second of all it makes the team look bad, and last of all it could have illegal problems (abuse, domestic violence, drugs, etc). The first reason sports teams should hold their players to a standard for their personal conduct is, if they held them to a standard, their problem could be prevented. Its basic logic, why do you put a kid in timeout or a person in jail? First of all, because they did something bad, but more importantly so they don't do it again. An example of a player getting away with it is Ray Rice. He beat his wife unconscious in an elevator but only got suspended for two games. Guess what, he did it again? People don’t like when a man beats his wife or assaults a woman and doesn't get punished. When Ray Rice beat his wife, he only got suspended for two games. It should have been way longer. That makes the NFL look bad for not suspending him for longer than he should have. Also, the team could have held him out for longer even if the NFL did not, but they didn’t. So that means half of the fans of his team don't like the team. I understand that some of the time the media blows something like this way out of proportion. This would be a case where the team should not be able to do this. So that would be a down of sports teams holding their players to a standard for their conduct. But, Ray Rice was shown in a video beating his wife. There is actual proof of him committing this
