In Of Mice and Men loneliness takes a big role in many of the characters’ lives. Most, if not all of the characters are lonely and searching for somebody to be there for them, or just simply somebody to talk to. Because loneliness has no single common cause, the preventions and treatments are very different for every person. For example a lonely child who struggles to find friends may need different treatment than an elderly woman who has just recently lost her husband. Studies have shown that a lonely child may need to talk to some teachers or a counselor. Doing this should take away some of the child’s sense of loneliness. An elderly widowed woman may consider talking to her family such as siblings, children, or grandchildren.…show more content…
Loneliness can even be caused by the thought of being isolated. When a marine is overseas fighting, he can feel a sense of loneliness even though he is there with many other people. A college student away from home can feel lonely even if he has many friends. He may feel this because it seems that everything is just moving so much faster than they are. There are many things that can cause loneliness. A death of a family member or friend may be the most devastating thing that can cause loneliness. A low self-esteem may occur because of loneliness, or it may be the cause of it. One cause of loneliness that many people don’t realize is social media. You may see people having a good time with friends or family on various types of social media. If you don’t have somebody like everyone else does than you may feel all alone. Being a new student at school and not being able to fit in may also be a huge contributor to loneliness. Loneliness has a wide range of negative effect on your body, both physically and mentally, but what many people don’t know is that loneliness is very bad for your health.
