Texas lawmakers made a prodigious decision when they passed a law, allowing guns in college campuses. The ability to be able to carry concealed weapons on college campuses will greatly lessen the chance of there being college assaults. With more armed students and staff, criminals will think twice before assaulting a college that has the potential to retaliate. Therefore, Texas lawmakers made the correct decision on allowing concealed carry on college campuses. Recently, there have been arguments about the decision to allow guns on college campuses. With a more armed population, criminal activity will decrease. A mass increase of armed students will make a college campus safer. With this law being passed, we can avoid a tragedy like that of Virginia Tech. A total of forty-nine people were killed or wounded in this incident. The Virginia Tech shooter, Seung-Hui Cho, entered a classroom and opened fire on the students. No one in the classroom was ready for the unexpected encounter. With this law now in place we can prevent what happened at Virginia Tech and now more people will be armed and ready against shooters. There are also many more benefits to having concealed handguns. Concealed carry laws also help to reduce crime. “States which passed concealed carry laws reduced their murder rate by 8.5%, rapes by 5%, aggravated assault by 7%, and robbery by 3%”[2] also “In 1979, the Carter Justice Department found that of more than 32,000 attempted rapes, 32% were actually committed. But when a woman was armed with a gun or knife, only 3% of the attempted rapes were actually successful.”[2] With more college campuses having a greater population of armed students and staff, incidents such as that of Virginia Tech could be
