Personal Narrative: My Mother

Growing up, you hear many stories of your childhood. For me, it was all the crazy stories of how I was such a trouble maker. It was nice to ask these questions because it helped me make a connection between what I’m learning in this class and my own life. This assignment made my mother very emotional. My mother described giving birth to my sister and me as “the most beautiful experience in [her] life.” My mother said she saw a physician during her pregnancy. When I asked her how frequent were her prenatal visits with the physician she said about every month. The physician determined my mom’s due date, health, and procedures for the process. She stopped drinking soda and alcohol, stopped smoking, and improved her diet. I was delivered at a hospital in Colombia. My mom had a painful delivery with my sister and decided to have a C section for me. She said my birth was less painful than my sisters. The doctor than put my butt on top of her face. She said there weren’t any complications other than the fact I was about 10 pounds at birth. Hospitals in Colombia didn’t allow fathers to be in the delivery room so therefore, my dad was not reunited with me until my mother and I were moved to the next room. I began crawling around 5 months. My mom said I was a very strong baby. I took my first steps when I was 10 months. My first words were mama, papa, and tete; which is an expression of milk. According to my mom, my fine motor skills were very good. She called me as a “professional crawler.” As a child I liked to climb and grab things. However I did have trouble with my speech. Since my ability to talk and pronounce words was delayed, my parents took me to language therapy. My mom believes I was more attached to her since she spent more time with me. My mom said I was very
