Personal Narrative: My Fifth Grade High School Play

When I was in fifth grade I became a highly acclaimed playwright. The amount of recognition I received on the playground from my peers and teachers was almost unbearable. Although, it was so long ago; and my playwright days are over writing my fifth grade school play is still my biggest accomplishment. For almost two whole months, I was the star of Thompson Elementary School. I still remember my months of fame like it was yesterday.
My fifth grade teacher Mrs. Newman decided to hold a contest where every student in the fifth grade could submit an idea or script for a chance to write the school play. I remember going home and tossing around ideas on my emac desktop computer until I came up with the perfect mystery play idea. My play was a lot…show more content… For the next three weeks, everyday after school, she helped me turn my idea into a masterpiece. Once the final script was complete, it was time to cast the crew. Although, we held auditions on specific days; I would still get bombarded by my friends in hope that I would give them the part. The amount of fifth graders that wanted to be apart of my presentation was overwhelming. I began carrying around a clipboard, to take down names for an interest list. After, the auditions were complete and the cast was official, we practiced the play for a few weeks and it was time to present my masterpiece to the school. Which, felt like the world to my fifth grade self. Like every great playwright I was presented with some obstacles, three days before showtime my principal decided that my originally titled my play “The Mystery Murderer” was too vulgar for my young audience. It was a simple fix, I dropped the word Murderer but I learned my first lesson about censorship. I remember being so proud of my creation, being able to get up in front of the whole school and say “Welcome to Mrs.Newman's Fifth grade class play; written by Dai’ Janai Yarber with Collaboration of Mrs.Newman's fifth grade class!” I will never
