I have been playing softball since I was 6 years old. Softball has always come easy to me, and there was never a dull moment during practices or games. The reason I have always adored softball is because my teammates have always been super perky and we always cheer eachother on. “The best teams have chemistry. They communicate with each other and they sacrifice personal glory for the common goal.” is a famous quote from Dave DeBusschere. This quote applies to my team to the point. We sacrifice for the greater good and it is truly amazing what can be accomplished when no one cares who gets the credit. Everyone, not just me, feels like they belong on this team. Don’t get me wrong, practices and games were rough, but the rewards after were worth it. When I am with them, I feel like I fit in and actually belong somewhere. The one time I felt like I truly belonged, was when I was standing behind home plate, listening to my teammates yell, “Up where the birdies fly! Too high Too high.” when the pitcher threw me a foul ball. I fixed my stance. I observed the pitcher, and the way her hand curled around the neon green ball was extremely intimidating. She swung her arm around and released the ball. A perfect pitch. I swung my bat, but too early, and heard the umpire yell “Strike!”. I took a step back and took a deep breath. I could hear parents yelling, teammates cheering, and the catcher behind me smacking her glove. I stepped up to the muddy, rocky plate, and got in position.
