Anders is a well-educated book critic from an academic background. He is fairly snobbish, believing himself superior to those around him. Anders is sharply observant, even as one of the robbers is pushing a gun into his gut. He doesn’t know the appropriate way to react to his situation, as everyone else around him does. Based on Anders’ dialogue, and even in the way he is first described to us, it is clear that he thinks his own intelligence is superior to that of those around him.
