In Richard P. Feynman’s book, ‘O Americano Outra Vez,” Feynman presents to the reader that education in Brazil is slacking as a whole and needs to be upgraded. The reason being is that while Feynman was in Brazil, he took notice of how students studied and retained the information. This way of gathering information is not efficient in helping students actually learn the information. I can say from experience that students only study where they know the information for that one test, then the information suddenly vanishes. Feynman witnessed brilliant students recite large amounts of information but, not able to actually apply their studies. This is the cause of his conclusion that Brazil’s education system needs to be advanced as soon as possible.
The teachers are good at reciting what something is for the students, but the students do not learn how to put this information into different aspects. For example he asked a classroom full of students (in Brazil) what they saw when they looked out the window…show more content… However, saying this definition did not mean anything in the minds of those listening to his speech. Then Feynman states an example of this strange light as a way to show the people he was speaking to that the way things are worded are everything. The way words are said means everything. For example, if Feynman left the definition of triboluminescence and did not go more in depth about the topic, then the reader would not have known that this strange light can be seen in the reader’s very own house. That being said, the statement made about triboluminescence is the reason why I agree with this writer so much. I do not believe in a drastic change, such as, to reform what is taught in schools; it is the way that it is taught that should be altered. In high school, I've learned so much information that would probably not be voiced out of my mouth solely because the information was not retained
