Norma Jeane Baker changed her name to Marilyn Monroe in 1956. She became an American actress, model, and singer. Who became a major sex symbol in the 50’s and early 60’s. She starred in many comedy movies that people still enjoy today. Till this day she is a role model to young girls and actress thru the world. Norma Jeane Mortensen or Baker was born June 1, 1926. Her mother was a flapper who became very involved in drugs and alcohol. She gave Norma Jeane up to foster homes. Growing up she spent a lot of time going from home to home. She was abused in 3 of the homes she was in. In one she was sexually molested by the man of the house hold. Although he told her not to tell anyone, she ran to tell the lady of the house. The lady of the house told her that she was a liar and harshly spanked her. She would consistently tell her she was dirty. Later years passed and Norma Jeane mother took her back in but her mother went in to the same habits. Norma Jeane became close to her mother’s best friend which she was later adopted by. Monroe had 3 health issues which was depression, low self-esteem, and sleep disorder. The depression came from the two miscarriages that she had during her marriage with Arthur Miller in her third marriage. Even though she was going through that she always kept a smile on her face in public throughout her whole life. Marilyn Monroe kept her self-occupied by taking evening classes in Art and Literature at UCLA. She also took acting classes during her time of fame but so she wasn’t noticed in the public she would sometimes use a dress up and pretend to be a women named Zelda Zonk.
