Astronomy is studied by Wizards and Muggles alike. While very similar, they also have differences. For example, Muggles believe that Astronomy is a natural science, studying the celestial bodies. This includes other planets, moons, and other bodies such as asteroids and dwarf planets. Perhaps the main reason that Muggles study the heavens so adamantly is to find evidence of life beyond our own planet. Conversely, we Witches and Wizards study Astronomy to discover what affect it has over our magic. This is not to say that we do not have similar interests in the universe to Muggles. Some potions must be brewed within a certain moon phase, and some spells can only be cast when the stars and planets are aligned in particular ways. Section…show more content…
It is the hottest planet in our solar system, is a terrestrial planet and is very similar in size to earth. Earth: Home, sweet home. The only planet in our solar system not named for a Roman deity. It is the only planet we know definitely sustains life. 70% of it is covered with water, making it the only planet we know of that has liquid water. Mars: Nicknamed the "Red Planet" for its coloration due to the amount of iron on it's surface, it was also named after the Roman God of War (Grecian Ares) because of this. Has frozen carbon dioxide on it's poles which was once thought to be evidence of water. Jupiter: Named after the Roman King of the Gods (Zeus) because of it's enormous size. It is the largest planet in our solar system and has the most moons (67). The large red spot is a hurricane that has been occurring for over 600 years. Saturn: Cronos is the Greek equivalent to the Roman God of Agriculture for which Saturn was named. It is the second largest planet in our solar system and is most known for its beautiful rings.
