According to www.drugbank.ca/drugs/db00331 metformin is a biguanide antihypergylcemic used to treat type 2 diabetes by the improvement of glycemic control by hepatic glucose production, glucose absorption being decreased, while increasing insulin-mediated glucose uptake. Induction of weight loss may be by incurred by metformin, as this is the drug of choice for obese patients. Metformin used alone does not cause hypoglycaemia; but may potentiate hypoglycemic effects of insulin. Fasting plasma glucose, postprandial blood glucose along with glycosolated haemoglobin (HbA1c) levels are decreased with the use of metformin, which are reflective of the last 8-10 weeks of glucose control. Insulin is a hormone which helps with the control of blood
