According to metformin is a biguanide antihypergylcemic used to treat type 2 diabetes by the improvement of glycemic control by hepatic glucose production, glucose absorption being decreased, while increasing insulin-mediated glucose uptake. Induction of weight loss may be by incurred by metformin, as this is the drug of choice for obese patients. Metformin used alone does not cause hypoglycaemia; but may potentiate hypoglycemic effects of insulin.
