Marilyn Manson, Shock Rock artist, used offensive and obscene stage antics that satirized religion, sexual preference and gender superiority to attract attention and upset the public. His lyrics contained themes of death and destruction. After a few years of him being out in the mainstream entertainment business, families whose children committed suicide accused Manson and his music as the reason for why they killed themselves. They said that the pro-death and anti-life themes of his lyrics incited their children, who were consumers of his music to act upon his lyrics. She was to be ridiculed for it and the youth was to learn of her disgrace as a lesson in morality. Not everyone was actively judgemental of Hester. Nor was everyone of Manson. Some people don’t overlook the little things that others do even if they share the same opinion. The circumstances of Hester Prynne are nothing but saddening considering that she would have never experience such ridicule and punishment in Modern America. Manson isn’t the only person in history that can be compared with the likes of Hester Prynne. Which goes to show that this manner of treatment upon people who behave against norms has been a historical issue for ages. Now I’m not saying that there weren’t situation where punishment was appropriate, I am only suggesting that not everyone is treated justly under given circumstances. Everyone should be accepted and embraced unless they provide a reason to be treated contrarily, in which case they should only be judged by the just, who will provide them with a penalty appropriate for their
