The True Hero of Rome In today’s society, heroes are seen as individuals who contribute to the good of the world. There are heroes everywhere in life and each have distinct heroic qualities that make them fit the definition of a hero. Through their actions those individuals have proven their worthiness of that title. In William Shakespeare’s play Julius Caesar; Marcus Brutus is much like this as he fulfills the role of the hero archetype through his heroic qualities such as his leadership, passion and intelligence. This demonstrates that Brutus is a hero because he is acting in the name of honour and making sure that everyone is doing it for the right reason, which shows leadership. Brutus has exceptional leadership skills that make him a hero. In addition to this, he is passionate about everything he does and says around these individuals as well. Brutus is presented as a very passionate character; he demonstrates his heroism through this trait. He proves this in his actions. Brutus murders Caesar for the good of Rome because he believes that Caesar will not be a good emperor and as a result of that, Rome will suffer, “not that I loved Caesar less, / but that I loved Rome more” (III.ii.21-2). This makes it evident that Brutus is a hero because he does what is best for Rome and puts others before himself. He also exemplifies passion when interacting with the public. This becomes evident when he gives his speech to the public about why Caesar was murdered (III.ii.12-46). Undoubtedly, Brutus is a hero for being honest, having a valid reason behind killing Caesar and being passionate about the cause. Along with his actions and verbal communication, Brutus’ thoughts are also passionate.
