“The greatest ideas are the simplest.” Who would think a book required for English class would give amazing life lessons. Lord of the Flies has lessons that most people do not learn till their old. A few lessons I learned are: everyone has the “evil” inside, society needs rules. There are many types of of governments some work out great, but others are set up to fail right from the start, Anarchy is the type of government to fail. Society needs rule without them we will fail and turn into savages. In the book the boys started off with having rules and they were civil. Their society had rules because they felt they still needed to be civilized. Though there were no adults on the boys still followed the rules from the real world. “Roger…show more content…
Roger gathered a handful of stones and began to throw them. Yet there was a space round Henry, perhaps six yards in diameter, into which he dare not throw. Here, invisible yet strong, was the taboo of the old life. Round the squatting child was the protection of parents and school and policemen and the law. Roger was conditioned by a civilization that knew nothing of him and was in ruins.” Unfortunately the longer the boys were on the island the less civilized they became. Evil is everywhere, but in the book Lord of the Flies Golding showed evil as the “Beast” it was the evil on the island. Throughout the story the beast transformed into many things until it became the boys itself. “Maybe there is a beast… maybe it's only us.” Piggy was the first to start the idea that the things we fear are merely the fear of the evil we are capable of. No one on that island would have thought they were capable of murder until Jack and the other hunters killed the pig. “Kill the pig! Cut his throat! Kill the pig! Bash him in!” As humans we can not understand out power until we are in a circumstance in which we have to act with our power. After the first kill on the island Jack became obsessed with the power or evil he felt. In society today the evil in humans shows through a lot more. Everyone has the ability to kill another human it is only if we give the evil in us the power do we act on the ability. “You knew, didn't you? I'm part of you? Close, close, close! I'm the reason why it's no go? Why things are what they are?” The beast in us
