Pongo pygmaeus, commonly known as a Bornean orangutan, is a widely known animal with many distinct features. Though these animals are widely known, they are also endangered to be extinct as they have seen a 60% decline in population in the past 60 years and their habitat has seen a 55% reduction in the past 20 years (“Bornean Orangutan”). At first, one may not believe that this species has much contribution to the environment, but that is clearly untrue. This species is tremendously important in the environment as they disperse seeds and are able to “help keep forests healthy” (“Bornean Orangutan”).
