What is iodide? Iodide is a form of iodine that is a slightly different atomic charge and it is chemically bound with an element like potassium or sodium (Dr. Group, 2013). Iodide is the ion state of iodine, this happens when iodine bonds with another element. Iodides are simply a safe form of iodine for people to eat. When you purchase iodine from the store, it is usually in a form of iodide solution like salt. This allows the body to take the iodine in your body and use it safely. Iodine is one of the types of nutrients that people need in small amounts. If taken in big amounts it could harm the human body. Draw rows for each type of salt that is being tested and the positive control iodine solution. Also draw columns to record the color of each solution at the end of the tests. Then chose one of the types of salt to test first. By using the marker, label a clean plastic cup with the type of salt that is being tested. Then add 4 tablespoons [Tbsp.] or 80 grams [g] of the salt into the labeled cup. Then add 240 mL or 1 cup of distilled water. After that stir well with a clean plastic spoon, to the point that the salt is dissolved with the water. This could take up to a minute or two. Remember not all of the salts will dissolve in the water at the same rate. Also some salts would not dissolve in the water at all. Then add 15 mL or 1 Tbsp. of white vinegar. After the vinegar, add 15 mL or 1 Tbsp. of 3% of hydrogen peroxide. After mixing that add 2.5 mL or 1/2 tsp. of the starch solution. Then stir the solution well with the spoon. Then leave the solution for few minutes. This helps everything to mix together. After the solution gave some color then record the color of the solution in the notebook.
