Sir Joseph Lister in known as the “father of modern surgery” and was one of the renowned surgeon in the Royal Society, Britain’s renowned society of scientists. Joseph’s father, Joseph Jackson Lister was also an amateur scientist and corrected the lens in the microscope which provided a clearer image which earned him a place in the royal society. Born in Upton, England it seems to be that his medical insight came to him quite naturally. Joseph started his career as a house surgeon and work in University College Hospital after graduating from University College in London. In the 1800’s surgery was quite a risky task.
