Jordan Belfort and Donnie Azoff started a brokerage firm Stratford-Oakmont, after leaving a Long Island boiler room dealing with penny stocks. While doing the penny stocks, Jordan was feeding the clients false information about the companies he recommended they should invest in. He would tell the clients to invest in stocks that the company secretly and heavily invested in, which lead to a huge rise in the stock’s price; and they were making huge gains. Jordan said that they were “selling garbage to garbage men” (wolf of wall street), and wondered why they couldn’t do it with the wealthiest people. For one the games they were going to order midgets to launch at a big dartboard and see who could get the closes to the center. While planning for the party, they had a thought process known as prejudice, which is “ An idea about the characteristics of a group that is applied to all members of that group and is unlikely to change regardless of the evidence against it” (The Real World). They said without drugs they felt super bored, like they were about to die. A very creative aspect of the movie was that Rodrigo Prieto (director of photography). would switch camera lenses in order to depict Jordan’s state of mind. When Jordan was sober, he would use flat spherical lenses. When he is on drugs, he used the anamorphic lens. This is important because we can see what Jordan is seeing at all times of the movies which gives us an emotional attachment to Jordan. A great example of this is when Jordan took a lot of drugs and he couldn’t even walk to his car. He barely made it by crawling, and scooting to his car. The first time we see Jordan driving home, we see what he was thinking which was a slow and smooth ride home. But when they flashed it back, he had run over many stop signs and poles, and barely made it home safely.
