“Success is nothing more than a few disciplines, practiced every day” (Brainy Quote). Patience is the key to every situation especially when it comes to success. I need to work hard to achieve my goals in life. Getting a good education will help me go far in my career. In Wooden’s book, I learned the importance of being patience, working hard, and getting a good education which will help me be successful in college. The first element to success in college is patience. In Wooden: A Lifetime of Observations and Reflections On and Off the Court, John Wooden said: “Learn from the past, don’t live in the past” (57). You need learn from what mistakes you made but move on from it. In Wooden, he talked about perfection takes time. John writes, “Good things always take time, and that requires patience” (191). In Wooden, he talks about education is the first priority. John Wooden stated: “I told them they were coming to UCLA to get an education, a degree” (152). Wooden made it known that education was always first even before basketball. If John Wooden said that then we all must put education first on our priority list. Later in the book, Wooden talks about the law of learning. He said, “The four laws of learning are explanation, demonstration, imitation, and repetition” (144). When you learn something the teacher should explain it, show you examples, then the students need to try a few problems. After that it is up to you to keep trying it, doing it over and over again will help you remember it. I have been going to school for about 17 years. I started going to school when I was 3 years old and maybe even younger. I’ve had a good education overall with a lot of bumps along the road.
