Saint Joan of Arc, Thesis statement Did you see them? Did you? Did you see the angels? They're gone now but did you see them?....Oh you didn't?...Aish... Well, let me introduce myself properly, I'm Joan of Arc also known as "The Maid of Orléans". Messages from God, war, and worst of all being burned to death; I had to go through all these things, allow me to explain. I was born in 1412 in Domrémy, France. I was a peasant girl with quite religious parents. My father, mother, and I lived in a small village. My father owned a small garden in our backyard. That is where I received my first vision, a message from God that is. The angels St. Michael, St. Catherine, and St. Margaret visited me telling me that I must lead an army in the war against the English. When I turned 16 my father attempted to put me up for an arranged marriage, which I convinced local courts to deny. Shortly afterwards I attempted to become a leader in my own army so that I could fulfill God's wish and lead France to victory in the Hundred Years’ War. I went and requested to join Charles in his army along with two of my brothers. After asking twice he finally gave me what I requested and I led my army into battle. Carrying a banner that bore Jesus's name, I marched into battle refusing to hold a weapon. The attempt of unaggressiveness did not work in my favor. However, I denied a weapon knowing that God would save me if necessary. Later in battle, I was shot in the neck with an arrow, but I continued my march, bearing the name of God on my banner.
