Jealousy is defined as an envious or bitter attitude. Many people experience it everyday, but not many stop to actually analyze it and consider the effects of it on their outlooks on life. Forgiveness in Families is a short story written by Alice Munro. Munro tells a story about Val’s younger, hippie brother, Cam, being born on her first day of school and from that day on, she views her brother as a burden rather than a blessing. Jealous family members do exist, and in this story Val seems to be the one that envys her brother. As the story progresses, Val believes that Cam is responsible for his mother’s hospitalization and near death experience.
