Servant leadership as seen in the text is described as a type of leadership where the leader focuses primarily on the growth and well-being of people and the communities to which they belong. Usually, the servant-leader shares power, puts the needs of others first and helps people develop and perform as highly as possible. If inequalities and social injustice exist, a servant leader tries to remove them (Graham, 1991). In becoming a servant-leader, a leader uses less institutional power and control while shifting authority to those who are being led. Servant leadership values community it provides a face-to-face opportunity for to experience interdependence, respect, trust, and individual growth (Greenleaf, 1970). Morgan Freeman excellently displayed the characteristics of a servant leader in his quest to build their nation. In the movie, Invictus, we see Morgan Freeman display all the characteristics of a servant leader. During the class discussion, my group agreed that Morgan Freeman sacrificed his life for his people by going to prison meaning that he put his people first before himself which displayed that he is indeed a servant leader. Also when he gave part of his salary to charity really showed his how far he can go for others.
