Memphis Tennessee is a southern city everyone should visit if they get the opportunity. Memphis is known for several festivals which bring many people to the city, the many musicians who have played there, and its association to the Civil Rights Movement.
Memphis has several key festivals which liven up the city and bring thousands of revelers to the city. One of the largest celebration of the city is Memphis in May which is a month long series of events promoting African American heritage and outreach of its people. The second event is the Beal’s Music Festival. International week and sunset symphony, and I can’t forget about the Worlds Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest is the largest pork barbecue contest in the world. If you go to Memphis be sure to go to see the home of Elvis Presley which is called Graceland and is a testament to his life and music. Graceland has thousands of people who make the pilgrimage yearly religiously. It is one of the most visited homes in the United States. Apart from Graceland, people flock to Memphis for the good music: Blues and Jazz music in particular. Some famous musician is always playing in Memphis so if you love music like I do, book your next flight for Memphis; you won’t be disappointed.
For all you history buffs, Memphis is the place to be if you want to learn about the Civil Rights Movement and key events of the movement. The National Civil Rights Museum is located in the former Lorraine motel where Dr. Martin Luther king Jr was assassinated. It contains several objects from the actual movement or exact copies like a bombed out bus from the Freedom Rides. Going to the Civil Rights Museum, you will get up close and personal with a part of history that forever change the
