The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman is about a baby who is raised in a graveyard by the dead. This child's entire family is murdered in the middle of the night by a cruel-hearted man named Jack. The eighteen-month old Nobody Owens, Bod for short, escapes by crawling into an old graveyard and is adopted by a couple who were buried there for more than a hundred years. As Bod grows up, he learns all he needs to know about being dead and haunting the living, but must continue to stay in the graveyard for his own safety until Jack, the man who wanted him and his family dead, is found. The Graveyard Book is a tale of an unusual child and his unusual childhood, one that starts out to be a bit scary but ends up to be an amazing novel. In this area, Bod meets a witch, Liza, and decides to create a tombstone just for her. To do this, he must go into town and speak with the living, for the first time in his life. But Bod quickly finds himself in trouble with an disgraceful pawn broker, but Liza soon arrives to rescue him.Eventually, Bod comes to the conclusion that he needs to go to school with the living so that one day he may be able to survive in the real world. Silas, his guardian, supports this idea and lets Bod go to school, but Bod soon finds himself in trouble with a few bullies at school. When Bod is arrested and nearly taken to jail, Silas and Bod both decide it would be better if Bod didn't attend a real school.Scarlett, his living friend, returns to London after her parents are divorced and finds herself in the cemetery again. Scarlett meets a kindly Mr. Frost there, who gives her a ride home. Scarlett returns to the graveyard to help
