The Boeing 747 was a revolutionary jet liner that changed the world. William Boeing got the company started on July 16, 1916. This jet came with an upper deck that allowed the rider to sit in absolute luxury. The Boeing 747 was first put into service by PanAm airlines on February 9, 1969. With a cruising speed of around 550mph and a range of 7,260 nautical miles or 8,350 miles this beast could fly you from Los Angles, California to Sydney, Australia in about 12 hours. Starting at a price of $24 million dollars in 1967 the 747 ended at around $352 million in 2012. This 4 engine jetliner can be a cargo airplane and a passenger airplane. Although this plane has super boosted since 1969 it all goes back to the basics of its 4 Pratt and Whitney jets busting out 40,000lbs of thrust each. The 1st class floor alone changed the way people travel, if you had the money of course. Even the normal floor seated up to 350 people. In fact, the plane was so gigantic airport taxi ways were made wider for this jet. With a length of 232 feet, a 211 foot wingspan, and a height of 63 feet it took 4 jet engines with 40,000 pounds of thrust coming out of each one and 9,900 feet of runway to get it in the air. Not to mention it also takes 2 highly trained pilots to fly the Boeing 747. Average people were not only the passengers aboard this jet, the most important person in the U.S, the President, used this jet as a mobile command center and traveled country to country. This jet allowed the president to fly in absolute comfort and safety. This 747 is called Air Force One. Many people think that this jet is modified to protect the president at all costs.
