In this post-war town there is nothing beautiful. Everything is destroyed by bombs. The town hasn’t seen anything beautiful in years. Graham Greene, the author, writes the short story, “The Destructors,” showing the post-war actions. In this town there is this group of boys. The boys vary in ages, but most of them are young. They are called the Wormsley Common Gang. This generation of kids have never seen beauty. They were born and have grown up in an evil world. Then there is Mr. Thomas’ house. It is beautiful. It was built by a famous architect. The boys want to take down the house because everything they see is destroyed. This one thing bothers Trevor, as known as T., so he plans to destroy it. Everything else is destroyed so why does Mr. Thomas get to have something nice. The Wormsley Common Gang usually bounce their ball against his wall, and he doesn’t like it so he bribes them with candy. They are impressed because once again he has nicer things. They took out every nail and smashed every piece of glass. They ripped up paintings and stripped the house of humanity. When the boys thought they had done enough work, they asked T. to be done. He said no keep going. They took out the floors and worked their way through the whole house. This just adds more evidence to show that he didn’t want anything left.
