Otto Dix is a German painter that is known for his depiction of life and cruel reality of war through painting. Dix is a very important figure of the Neue Sachilichkeit, a term also known as New Objectivity which signifies public attitude in Weimar Germany towards art, literature and music. Otto Dix was greatly changed by the horrors of World War I, and so the theme of suffering is frequently repeated in many of his paintings such as, military trenches filled with decaying humans, paintings of war in general and images of disfigured soldiers.
